READING RESIDENT LATEST “REALITY” STAR

Reading, MA – If you live in the Reading area and watch golf on television, you may be having one of those “I know that guy” moments. Who is the tall guy with the easy swing and Meadow Brook Golf Club logo gear appearing on the new Titleist 2010 Introductions TV spots? Turns out it is Reading resident Bobby Coppins. Bobby, who has been a resident of Reading for 7 years, was picked by Titleist to appear in its new promotional series featuring “real people” golfers last year, after being nominated by a friend in the advertising business.

The series was taped in Scotland in September of 2009 and has been appearing frequently as part of the routine advertising rotation for PGA events.

Bobby went through a lengthy interview process that included meetings with the Titleist Marketing team where all things golf were discussed; how he got into the game(Grandfather), favorite golfer (Bobby Jones), favorite hole (#2 at Meadow Brook Golf Club), juggling work and family with golf, and approach to the game.

Three days after the interview he was on en route to St. Andrews, Scotland.   The taping took place at two locations in St Andrews; The Dukes course owned by Koehler of Whistling Straits, Wisconsin fame, and The St. Andrews Bay Resort.   When not taping he spent time with the Titleist European Tour pros (Robert Karlsson, Soren Hanson, Lee Westwood…..) in town for their part in the filming along with playing the Dunhill Cup.    Bobby also enjoyed two rounds while there.

Bobby grew up in Winchester where he played hockey and lacrosse. He was an ’83 graduate of the University of New Hampshire.   Bobby, a 5 handicapper and IT director at Atlas Venture in Waltham, MA, and his wife (an avid golfer) have two daughters who are just getting into golf.

Locally, Bobby plays most of his golf at Meadow Brook Golf Club in Reading.

Meadow Brook was designed by Alexander Findlay, long known as the “Father of American Golf” for the number of 19th century courses he developed. The Club serves as the home course for the Reading Memorial High School golf team and offers a full slate of tournaments, leagues, charity events, clinics and lessons for men, women and juniors.
